The year 2020 have been a year to remember or perhaps better to forget!
As for all of us last year have had tremendous effect on us all and specially for us in the diving industry. The year started out very good with loads of divers and guests. But suddenly got disrupt with closing of borders and people started to run back to the airport to be able to head home. For us that have remained, we have had it quite hard with one of the longest lockdowns in the world (Still in a kind of lockdown). With the first few months of total lockdown where we where barely allowed to go out. Finally come the day where they opened up slightly to let us out and we where again able to breath the ocean air! Once they allowed us to be out and about again we went straight back in to the ocean and started diving . Not with out restriction though. We had to and still do, wear facemasks all the time and fair play i have say. It seem to have been working and Cebu is now starting to be very low on Covid 19 cases which is a very good sign. Hopefully they can open the borders again soon.
Congrats
This year have not all been a sorrow after all. Our instructor Johan left to Malaysia in the beginning of March to undergo the comprehensive training to become a PADI Course Director and did so with flying colours. A massive congratulations to Johan who is now our in-house PADI Course Director!
Once Johan got back home he immediately start working on getting our first IDC of the year going.
In September Johan with Irish as his Staff instructor started their first IDC together and not just any IDC. They both got 7 Candidates to transform into PADI Instructors and made a amazing job. Since we are still in a Pandemic they decided to make the course slow. The course took about 5 weeks to complete, not doing course all day long but with just a few days a week. Our Candidates where all from different part of the world. We had a group of 3 ladies and 4 gents. 1 from France, 1 from Chile and 5 from the Philippines. Its our biggest group of locals we ever had and we loved to bring the locals in with us and we really enjoyed having them here. Our Staff Instructor Irish did a amazing job explaining in her local dialect Visaya to our 5 amazing candidates who where from all around Cebu. A huge thank you Irish.
Time for MSDT-Prep
After 5 weeks of IDC it was finally time for some real diving. After weeks of learning how to make presentations. Showing us how to teach in confiend water and in open water it as finally time for some MSDT-Prep which all of them enjoyed alot. During a few days we did Deep diver, Night diving, Wreck diving, Nitrox Diving, Digital Underwater Photography and Oxygen Provider specialties with the group. They will not just be regular PADI Instructors but also be ahead of their competition and be able to teach all of these specialties from the first day after a successful IE.
Examination day!
The time have come of the most exciting days ahead – Instructor Examination (IE). This 2 day examination was held here in Neptune Diving Resort. It was home turf for candidates as they could feel right at home. Nevertheless they all showed up with smiles on their faces but with a bit of nervousness but thats part of the game. After 2 days of being being evaluated its finally over!
